OWATONNA — There must be something about the Alexandria defense that the Owatonna Express like.

Four weeks after the Express beat the Blizzard for six goals, they scored seven on Friday night in a 7-2 victory at the Four Seasons Centre.

Six players scored for Owatonna, including forward Cory Thorson, who netted two goals. Josh Daley, Chris Darnell, Zach Vierling, Tim Smith and Brian McGinty also scored for Owatonna (14-11-1, 29 points), which snapped a two-game losing streak. Alexandria (15-9-2, 32) got goals from Bryce Ravndalen and Joe Knoepke.

Thorson and Daley both scored in the first period to give Owatonna a 2-0 lead before Ravndalen scored to cut the lead to 2-1 at the first intermission.

The Express exploded for four straight goals in the second period to pull away, and then McGinty scored the lone goal in the third period.

The seven goals is the third-highest total of the season for the Express, who likely set the bar too high with 12 goals in a win over Kenai River at the NAHL Showcase in September. Owatonna also hit double figures against Albert Lea in a 10-2 win on Nov. 15.

Jason Horstman got the win in net for Owatonna with 20 saves. It was his first win in four starts. Before that, the Faribault native had won six consecutive starts, including a 6-3 win over Alexandria on Nov. 21.

The Express and Blizzard play again at 7 p.m. Saturday in Alexandria. Owatonna could pull within one point of the Blizzard in the standings with a win tonight. The Express are currently one point behind North Iowa (30 points) in the standings
